Day 0 - Acclimatize and Virtual Meeting
You must arrive in Pereira the day before your reservation to acclimatize and have a mandatory meeting with our team. This can be in person or virtually.
This meeting will consist of an information session in which we will verify that you have the appropriate equipment to carry out the activity and in which we will give you a series of recommendations to carry out the trekking in Los Nevados de Potosí to the Cocora Valley without inconvenience.
Day 1 - Getting to know the Otún lagoon
Our adventure begins at 5:00 a.m. in Pereira, where we'll board a 4x4 car that will take us to Potosí for approximately 2.5 hours. During the journey, we'll enjoy a delicious breakfast.
Once in Potosí, we'll begin our trek at an altitude of 3,900 meters above sea level. During this initial trek, we'll cross a 6 km road that leads to Otún Lagoon, where we'll enjoy magnificent views of Nevado Santa Isabel, the Paramillo del Quindío, and, of course, Otún Lagoon. We'll walk downhill for another 5 km until we reach Mosquito Lagoon, where the guide will choose the best spot for lunch.
After lunch, we'll hike downhill for 4 km and 3 Km uphill for approximately 3 hours. We'll arrive at Berlín, a farm located at an altitude of 3,800 meters above sea level, where we'll rest and have dinner.
Day 2 - Crossing the Páramo
We will begin our second day with a delicious peasant breakfast and with a steep ascent to a place that will give us the opportunity to observe Cerro Chispas, Paramillo del Quindío and Nevado del Tolima.
This part of the tour involves an area frequented by eagles and different animals in the area, so it is likely that we will see them along the way.
Finally, we will begin our journey to the La Argentina farm, which we will arrive at around 4:00 p.m., we will have dinner and rest.
Optional: Depending on the weather conditions and the physical condition of the participants, the guide may decide to ascend Cerro Chispas at 4,300 meters above sea level, an additional 3 km
Day 3 - Cocora Valley through the Cloud Forest.
We'll begin our last day with a delicious breakfast at 6:00 a.m. to help us recharge our batteries for the day ahead.
We'll hike a trail that will take us to the Cocora Valley, a place that will give us the opportunity to appreciate an incredible view of the Cárdenas River Canyon.
Afterward, we'll descend the mountain, entering the high Andean forest; a natural paradise that will allow us to see the tallest palm trees in the world, the Wax Palm.
The hike ends in the Cocora Valley at the Los Orillos restaurant around 3:00 p.m., with our hearts full of gratitude for having completed 11 km today. In the Cocora Valley, specifically at the Los Orillos restaurant, we'll board a vehicle that will take us to the municipality of Salento, where we'll have a well-deserved and delicious lunch to conclude the trek.
How fit do I need to be?:
To do this trek, you need to be in very good physical condition. If you want to get the most out of your trip, you should be able to walk distances of 18 km over several consecutive days. Much of the trek will be at high altitudes, so it is recommended to spend a few nights before the trek at altitudes above 2,000 m above sea level, especially if you live at sea level.
Briefing:
All briefings are held one day before the trip at your hotel if it is a private tour or virtually if it is a group trek. The meetings last approximately 30 to 45 minutes, and we verify that you have everything you need, we will resolve your questions about the trek, and additionally you can pay the remaining 50%.
Where can I store my main luggage?:
During the trip, you can store your main luggage for free in our hold. You can also safely store any equipment that you will not need for the tour at your hotel. Almost all hotels offer this service.
Pick-up
All pickups are within the city of Pereira. We recommend booking a hotel as centrally located as possible. For private tours, pickup will be at your hotel; for group tours, a designated meeting place will be arranged. If you are staying in an area far from the city center, you will be charged an additional pickup fee. Our staff will confirm your pickup time with you the day before the tour.
Return to the city of origin:
The return to the city of origin is very easy, normally the tour ends in the afternoon in the municipality of Salento, you will have time to travel by bus to Pereira, it takes 40 minutes. We can also help you with a private transfer.
Group Tours:
Group tours are made up of different people with different physical conditions and ages. By agreeing to be part of a group tour, you acknowledge that some people may be faster or slower than you.
In some cases, the group may wish to modify the tour; however, it is up to the guide to decide, after consulting with all participants, whether such changes are possible.
Bookings and Pre - payment:
To book this adventure, you only have to choose the desired date. If there are places available you can reserve your place with a 50% of the total, the other 50% is normally paid one day before the start of the trek in the briefing meeting., if you want to do the private tour you can choose the date you want. For the first payment and the final payment, we accept cash, credit and debit cards.
