Day 0 - Acclimatization and Virtual Meeting
You must arrive in Pereira the day before your reservation to acclimatize and have a mandatory meeting with our team. This meeting can be in person or online.
This meeting will consist of an information session in which we will verify that you have the appropriate equipment for the activity and provide you with a series of recommendations for a smooth trek from Los Nevados de Potosí to Cedral.
Day 1 - Discovering Laguna del Otún
Our adventure begins at 5:00 a.m. in Pereira, where we will board a 4x4 SUV that will take us to Potosí for approximately 2.5 hours. During the trip, we will enjoy a delicious breakfast.
Once in Potosí, we will begin our trek at an altitude of 3,900 meters above sea level. During this first hike, we'll cross a 6 km road that leads to Otún Lagoon, where we can enjoy great views of Nevado Santa Isabel, the Paramillo del Quindío, and of course, Otún Lagoon. We'll walk downhill for another 5 km until we reach Mosquito Lagoon, where the guide will choose the best spot for lunch.
After a 9 km downhill hike, taking approximately 3.5 hours, we'll arrive at Jordán, a farm located at an altitude of 3,100 meters above sea level, where we'll rest and have dinner.
Day 2 - Descent through the Otún River Canyon
We'll begin our second day with a delicious country breakfast and a descent through the High Andean forest. This place will give us the opportunity to observe abundant fauna and flora, and numerous waterfalls, until we reach Cedral.
After enjoying the highlights of this tour and arriving at Cedral, we'll have a delicious lunch at a local restaurant.
After lunch, we will have our final thoughts about our tour, where our vehicle will be waiting to take us back to the city of Pereira. If it is a group tour, the vehicle will drop off participants at the Pereira Transport Terminal; if it is a private tour, it will drop travelers off at their hotel.
What physical condition do I need?:
To do this trek, you need to be in very good physical condition. If you want to get the most out of your trip, you should be able to walk distances of 18 km over several consecutive days. Much of the trek will be at high altitudes, so it is recommended to spend a few nights before the trek at altitudes above 2,000 m above sea level, especially if you live at sea level.
Briefing:
All briefings are held one day before the trip at your hotel if it is a private tour or virtually if it is a group trek. The meetings last approximately 30 to 45 minutes, and we verify that you have everything you need, we will resolve your questions about the trek, and additionally you can pay the remaining 50%.
Where can I store my main luggage?
During the trip, you can store your main luggage free of charge in our storage room. You can also safely store any equipment you won't need for the tour at your hotel. Almost all hotels offer this service.
Pickup in Pereira:
All pickups are within the city of Pereira. We recommend booking a hotel as centrally located as possible. For private tours, pickup will be at your hotel. For group tours, a designated meeting place will be provided. If you are staying in an area far from the city center, an additional pickup fee will apply. Our staff will confirm your pickup time the day before the tour.
Return to your city of origin:
Upon arrival at Cedral, we will take a private shuttle to Pereira. For group tours, the shuttle will take travelers to the Pereira transportation terminal. For private tours, the shuttle will take travelers to your hotel.
Group Tours:
Group tours are made up of different people with different physical conditions and ages. By agreeing to be part of a group tour, you acknowledge that some people may be faster or slower than you.
In some cases, the group may wish to modify the tour; however, it is up to the guide to decide, after consulting with all participants, whether such changes are possible.
Reservations and Prepayment:
To book this adventure, simply choose your desired date. If there are spots available, you can reserve your spot with 50% of the total; the other 50% is typically paid the day before the trek begins at the briefing. If you prefer a private tour, you can choose any date you prefer.
