Day 0 - Acclimatization and Virtual Briefing
You must arrive in the city of Pereira one day before your booking date to acclimatize and attend a mandatory briefing with our team. This meeting can be held in person or virtually.During this briefing session, we will check that you have the appropriate equipment for the activity and provide key recommendations to ensure a smooth and safe trekking experience from Los Nevados Potosí to the Cocora Valley.
Day 1 - Discovering Laguna del Otún
Our adventure begins at 5:00 a.m. in Pereira, where we will take a 4x4 vehicle to Potosí on a journey of approximately 2.5 hours. During the trip, we will enjoy a delicious breakfast.Once in Potosí, we will start our trek at an altitude of 3.900 m.a.s.l. During this first section, we will cover 6 km along a road leading to Laguna del Otún, where we will enjoy stunning views of Nevado Santa Isabel, Paramillo del Quindío, and, of course, Laguna del Otún. We will then descend for approximately 5 km to reach Laguna del Mosquito, where the guide will select the best spot for lunch.
After lunch, we will continue with a 4 km descent followed by a 3 km ascent, totaling approximately 3 hours of hiking, until we reach Berlín, a farm located at 3.800 m.a.s.l., where we will rest and have dinner.
Day 2 - Crossing the Páramo
We will start our second day with a traditional countryside breakfast and a challenging ascent to a viewpoint offering spectacular views of Cerro Chispas, Paramillo del Quindío, and Nevado del Tolima.This part of the route passes through an area frequently visited by eagles and other local wildlife, so it is very likely that we will spot some of them along the way.
Finally, we will head towards La Argentina farm, arriving around 4:00 p.m., where we will have dinner and rest.
Optional: Depending on weather conditions and the physical condition of the participants, the guide may decide to ascend Cerro Chispas at 4.300 m.a.s.l., adding an extra 3 km to the hike.
Day 3 - Cocora Valley through the Cloud Forest
We will start our final day with a delicious breakfast at 6:00 a.m. to fuel up for the day’s adventure.We will follow a trail leading to the Cocora Valley, where we will enjoy incredible views of the Cárdenas River Canyon.
Later, we will descend through the mountains and enter the high Andean cloud forest, a natural paradise where you can see the tallest palm trees in the world, the iconic Wax Palm.
The hike ends in the Cocora Valley at Los Orillos restaurant around 3:00 p.m., with a heart full of gratitude after completing 11 km on this day. At Los Orillos restaurant in the Cocora Valley, we will take a vehicle to the town of Salento, where we will enjoy a well-deserved and delicious lunch to conclude the trek.
What physical condition do I need?:
To complete this hike, it is necessary to have very good physical fitness. If you want to fully enjoy your trip, you must be able to walk distances of 18 km for several consecutive days. A large part of the hike will take place at high altitude, so it is recommended to spend a few nights before the hike at altitudes above 2.000 meters above sea level, especially if you live at sea level.Briefing meeting:
All briefing meetings take place one day before the trip at your hotel if it is a private tour or virtually if it is a group trekking. The meetings last approximately 30 to 45 minutes, and we will check that you have everything you need, answer your questions about the trekking, and additionally you will be able to pay the remaining 50%.Where can I store my main luggage?:
During the trip, you can store your main luggage free of charge in our storage room. You can also safely store any equipment you will not need for the trek at your hotel. Almost all hotels offer this service.Pick-up:
All pick-ups are carried out within the city of Pereira. We recommend booking a hotel as centrally located as possible and with a good location. If it is a private tour, the pick-up will be at the hotel; if it is a group tour, a meeting point will be designated for everyone. If you stay in an area far from the city center, you will need to pay an additional pick-up fee. Our staff will confirm the pick-up time one day before the tour.Return to the city of origin:
Returning to the city of origin is very easy. Normally, the tour ends in the afternoon in the municipality of Salento, and you will have time to travel by bus to Pereira, which takes 40 minutes. We can also help you with a private transfer.Group tours:
Group tours are made up of different people with different physical conditions and ages. By agreeing to be part of a group tour, you acknowledge that some people may be faster or slower than you. In some cases, the group may wish to modify the tour; however, it is the guide’s responsibility to decide, after consulting all participants, whether such changes are possible.Reservations and advance payment:
To book this adventure, you only need to choose your desired date. If there are available spots, you can reserve your place with 50% of the total price; the other 50% is usually paid one day before the trek starts during the briefing meeting.
